|The Godfather &Taormina Tour|
Taormina is a lovely town 50 km north of Catania also known as the ancient pearl of Sicily. Unique for its shape and position, Taormina owes its fame as an enchanting tourist resort to some distinguished British residents such as Lady Florence Trevelyan (philanthropist, gardener and ecologists), who created a park(now Villa Comunale) and bought a beautiful island on the coast (Isola Bella). She was also the first person to open an hotel in Taormina (now Hotel Timeo).
The tour starts visiting Savoca, a medieval town on top of a mountain facing the sea, famous for the film “ The Godfather” shot here by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Al Pacino and Robert de Niro. Here we will see the church of San Nicolo (the scene of the wedding of Michele e Apollonia), the catacombs of the Cappuccini monastery and the historic Vitelli Bar to experience once again the scenes from the film and to taste some sweet sicilian delicacies (cannoli or granita). Then we drive to Forza D’Agrò,another town on the coast renowned for its breathtaking panorama. In Taormina, we will have a walk in Corso Umberto where we can see the Greek Theater, the Odeon, and the Villa Comunale. At the end of our trip we stop to Isola Bella and then we reach the train station of Taormina , an eclectic building of the twenties, which features in many scenes of the Godfather thanks to its rare beauty.
